Project Update

Press Release

Work is expected to start shortly on phase one of infrastructure works for Omega North (industrial/logistics), the first area to be developed as part of the prestigious £1.25 billion Omega project being built over the next 25 to 30 years on the 233 ha (575 acre) former Burtonwood airbase site in Warrington.

Miller Developments is in advanced discussions with two preferred contractors to carry out the infrastructure work and will be making the appointment shortly, after which the construction programme will commence.

Jonathan Wallis of Miller and Omega Warrington Ltd comments:
“Omega will create a new landscape alongside the M62 in a prominent location for business of regional, national and international standing. It will provide one of the highest calibre business communities and is set to attract the best inward investment opportunities in the UK.

The vision is still very much the same, to be the number one destination in the region and globally ‘best in class’. Omega will be a destination park providing first class space on a scale that is currently not available in the North of England or rarely in the rest of the country.”

Omega North is focused on the logistics industry, extending across 75 acres and accommodating units of up to 530,000 sq ft in a single building. The site will provide occupiers with a flexible low density high quality environment which will set new standards from the building design right through to the surrounding landscaping.

The remaining phases of Omega which are South of the motorway will be promoted simply as Omega which will become a vibrant, active and sustainable business community in the heart of Warrington. The offer differs greatly from existing commercial and industrial space in the region and therefore Omega will not be in direct competition.

Jonathan Wallis concludes:
“The region is performing phenomenally well across all markets. We’ve seen major international corporates such as Bank of New York choosing the North West over any other location, which reinforces the commercial confidence in the region. This alongside the expansion of the region and Warrington’s own economic growth paints a very positive picture for the future.”

Omega is being officially launched to the market later this year although the team are already talking to a wide range of potential occupiers at a regional, national and international level with some discussions more advanced. It is anticipated the first occupiers will be trading from Omega in 2009.
